AMD claims Guinness World Record for 8.43GHz processor

Beats previous record of 8.309GHz
AMD claims that it has set a Guinness World Record for speed in a CPU. The company recorded an top frequency of 8.429GHz using an overclocked FX eight-core processor. The previous top speed, 8.309GHz, was set using a single-core Intel Celeron D 352.
The performance was achieved in a laboratory environment. The processor was bathed in liquid helium for cooling. The processor itself was a member of AMD's forthcoming FX Bulldozer family. Although not specifically identified, the eight-core CPU was probably the unlocked Zambezi chip. The company also pushed the processor using conventional air and water cooling and was able to achieve overclocked speeds in excess of 5GHz.
Buldozer CPUs are expected to be hitting the market in the fall this year.
